I’d leave more stars if I could, this hospital is amazing. They did for my dad what no other hospital within 300 miles was able to do. Eternally grateful for Dr. Sanchez and his incredible staff. Nurses Kaiden and Doona and the 4th floor are extremely attentive and compassionate. Can’t put into words how thankful my family is.

If you can afford to wait, please go to Northwestern or rush. University of Chicago emergency room is well below standards. I came in via ambulance and they had me sitting in a hallway discussing my medical history while many other patients were around. Instead of doing a full lab when they got my blood, I was asked am I sure I’m not pregnant because I have to do a CT scan. Luckily, I was very sure that I was not pregnant, but it could not help me but wonder how many other times do they just take a patient’s word for it and we all know patients lie A LOT. I asked for pain medicine and they tried to give me ibuprofen once I told them I can’t take ibuprofen because I have a history of stomach problems and ibuprofen is a known NSAID I was told “oh I must not be that hurt”. I left and went to Northwestern and low and behold, they believed me immediately and gave me stitches which I asked the nurse ( At UCHICAGO) if I needed stitches and he said no. I am just so thankful this was not a serious injury because I fully believe UChicago would’ve killed me. The fact that they did not take a black woman serious in a black neighborhood that they are constantly gentrifying lets me know that UChicago is no different from a lot of other institutions.

Sending a heartfelt thank you to the entire team involved in my loved one's care. We witnessed so many acts of lovingkindness from every single department. To the doctors for their skill and faith, the nurses for their warmth and expertise, the nurses that went the extra mile to restore his appearance and dignity, and housekeeping for keeping the environment so clean—you all gave us such peace of mind. God bless you all.

Want to be clear this review is of the facility and auxiliary staff, not the surgical team or anesthesia team. My review is from the families perspective. My brother had colorectal surgery today, 11/20/25. I have to transport him as he cannot drive. We had MANY preop appointments to prep for this surgery. At no time in that prep did anyone mention the length of time the surgery would take. When we arrived at 5 am we were told it was scheduled for 10 hours. Had I been told this ahead of time I might have prepared differently, packed more items for snacks and comfort. When they took my brother into surgery at 7:38 am, I assumed a 10 hour clock was starting, at 9:17 am I got a call that the surgery was starting (???), cut to 7 pm when I got the update call and I questioned the length of time I was told the first incision was not made until 11:40 am (again ????). I woke at 3 am to get my brother here from Shorewood , we arrived here at 5:08 am. We went to impatient registration and got signed in, at no time did the woman tell us there was another line we needed to go wait in for surgical check in. We wound up barely making it on time for the 7:30 check in, which I guess didn’t matter since nothing really started till 11:40 am. I got calls every two hours saying surgery is going good and no ETA on completion all day. I think that is a waste of your staffs and my time. Call me with important stuff but no information just seems silly to me. Now I am not familiar with this hospital so I asked the staff where things were located and basically got shrugs and no help. I wanted to get my brother some magazines and I asked where the University of Chicago bookstore was and got zero help. I googled it. I asked if there was a map of the campus on hand and everyone said no. I feel your facility is great with the patient but lacks greatly in consideration of the family and their needs. I am projecting that I will spend 16 hours here by the time I get to see my brother and I had no where to relax and be comfortable and no one to help me locate needs as they presented themselves. I feel 2 is generous in this respect. I believe if a surgery will take that long perhaps a separate area where you could maybe close your eyes for a bit with an attendant who could possibly assist you with issues. Probably not going to happen but a girl can dream!

These people are currently treating my sister who’s in their care like she’s in jail punishing her cut off her visitors yes family and all after the nurse Jah that works there attacked her while she’s hooked up to all type of cords including a monitor inside her, basically fighting for her life. Today 10-24-2025 things has gotten worst the security guards there as well as every staff member that approach her room, are harassing her now and they are neglecting to proceed to care for her. Please please please don’t go here and yea the Directors, Charge nurses and managers are well aware of this entire matter and everything is still very wrong!
