I recently visited Swain Community Hospital for an ultrasound. I received top notch customer service and care from Lydia and Rebekah (and staff) in the Radiology department. They went above and beyond in communicating with my referring doctor's office to obtain the correct paperwork needed, and were so incredibly kind and patient in a scary/stressful situation. I would highly recommend Swain Radiology and will definitely return here in the future for any medical needs.
My kiddo hit his head and needed a couple of staples. The entire ER staff was extremely quick and efficient; I wouldn't say we were there for more than 45 minutes. The nurses immediately put my son at ease, and were all very kind and professional. He couldn't stop raving about how nice the provider was after we left. The ER is never a fun place to visit, but this was the smoothest trip we've ever taken there by far.
We had to visit the ER on 7/10/25 while on vacation. My son has cut his finger pretty significantly and needed stitches. From the time we walked in the doors to the time we left, everything was great. The front desk lady was super sweet, the CNA that took us back right away was very kind. The nurse that came in was knowledgeable and got the ball rolling for x-rays and the dr to come in. Michael, the PA, came in and made my son feel very comfortable, where he could, and was great with him while doing his stitches. My son was nervous about everything, but when we left, he felt a lot better. Overall, we had a great experience at this ER and appreciate the great health care that was given.
I had the unfortunate need to visit the emergency department at Swain Community Hospital last Monday for sutures for a “split lip”. After checking in, I was seen almost immediately by Darla, RN, who got my vitals and took me into the suture room. Michael Fogel, the PA, came in and talked with me, then sent me for CT scans to ensure no other serious injuries. Once the scans were done and no further damage found, he began suturing me up,, with Darla assisting him. All through the procedure he and Darla kept talking to me, kept me calm, and continually kept checking on my comfort. I’m a retired fire captain/paramedic, and have seen thousands of E.R. encounters in my career. On Monday I received some of the best, most compassionate care possible. Thanks Darla and Mike, and everyone else at Swain who took great care of me!
The absolute worse doctor bed side manner ever. I had been diagnosed with shingles. By an actual doctor, to be precise two doctors. After being on the medication that was given to me from that doctor I was having some vision issues so I was instructed to go to the Er so they could check my eyes to see if I had shingles in them. This PA comes in barely looks at me tells me it’s not shingles and that it’s in my head. You would have thought I was there trying to get pain medicine. All I wanted to know is that it wasn’t in my eyes. Thank God it wasn’t. I’m not one that usually goes to the doctor but if there is a next time that I will need after hours care, it will not be at this facility. In a rural community where healthcare is limited you should do better and not make people feel like they are a burden to you. This is how you make a living and why you can pay your bills. Do better swain community hospital, the people here is why your doors are open and if your so called doctors don’t want to work here they need to move on. So if you go here and the doctor on call is Michael Fogel I suggest you don’t waist your time and move on to the next facility. He apparently has better things to do.
