The Tampa General Hospital (TGH)is an impressive medical facility full of caring and professional staff dedicated to the best care possible while doing healing work. My son had two heart attacks in one day at another hospital where they paddled him back to life, installed an ECMO machine an Impella heart pump and a ventilator and helicoptered him to Tampa General Hospital. At TGH they found his heart very weak. They monitored him 24/7 at the Cardio-Thorasic Intensive Care Unit (CT-ICU) where over two weeks, they slowly improved his heart function. After 10 days they removed the ECMO and shortly thereafter the Impella and ventilator and we could not believe the way he was improving, He was able to talk again. The nurses and doctors at the CT-ICU were all wonderful in their care, professionalism and their ability to explain things in a clear way. The one nurse who stood out was Renee because of her ability to bond with my wife with compassion and understanding. He was sent to the Cardiac ICU where he continued to improve. They did an ablation on his heart which brought it back to normal heartbeats. From the food court folks to the drivers who took us to our car to the helpful people in any hallway who helped us find our way, everyone we met was most courteous and helpful. He is now back home and doing very well. God gave my son a second chance at life using TGH as his healing instrument. The entire team at TGH is exceptional and I recommend this hospital to anyone seeking world-class medical care. TGH is also a teaching facility that demonstrates what dedicated people can do when the well being of the patients and visitors are made a priority. TGH was not only a blessing to our family but is also a blessing to the Tampa area to have such a superlative resource in their midst. Best hospital I have ever experienced.
Went in for a kidney donation for my little brother and the staff was incredible. Before the surgery, everyone came in to introduce themselves and were very kind. I woke from surgery crying from the pain and my nurse was very attentive and got me some more pain meds. The recovery was great, had a nurse check in on me every hour or so and got to leave the next day. Fabulous nurses! Thank you so much!
My daughter had her back surgery at Tampa General when she was 14, I had partial knee replacement about 12 years ago, my husband had stents put in his heart there 3 years ago. Wonderful hospital... But something has changed (a nurse at the area I was with confirmed this to me). Monday after being in the Brandon TGH facility for over 12 hours (7 waiting to be seen), I was transported to the main hospital via ambulance Sunday). Placed in a ER holding area because the hospital was apparently full. I was told I would be in this area only a couple of hours. I was there 2 nights until I was released yesterday (Wednesday). A man on the other side of the very thin small partition threw up all Monday night and part of Tuesday. I heard a nurse tell him he was diagnosed with a bacterial infection. I ask the nurse about this and my concerned was brushed off... I told her to move me or move him because I am allergic to most antibiotics. They did neither. I had barely anything to eat on Sunday,, nothing on Monday they would not allow me even a sip of water on Tuesday, not on IV and not on a blood pressure monitor. I literally begged for something to drink. Some of the staff in the area where I was at were extremely nice, but several were not. The people in the area were I had my stress done were wonderful and caring and even brought me a cup of coffee and a warm blueberry muffin. I had to walk down a long hallway (past the man with the infection) to get to a bathroom shared by anyone and everyone. Wednesday morning about 9:30 (still no breakfast) a nurse came to me and said, you've been released. I told her that no one had discussed my results with me. She said, would you like to talk to the doctor? Well yes I would! Are you kidding me??? His attitude was your blood pressure is fine (he was looking at the latest reading). I told him the problem was it could go from normal to almost 200 in a matter of 3 hours. He said, maybe your blood pressure monitor in faulty. I told him if mine was faulty so was the one at the Plant City Hospital and the one at the TGH ER in Brandon. He pretty much brushed me off.
My husband is been here since Dec 4th, he was put in a room on Friday Dec. 5 and his not been able to shower since then. Not towels, bath products, showers available for the patients. I had to bring my husband even wipes for him to refresh. I am very disappointed that how this hospital is been manage, The ER patients all over the hallways for days without been able to shower or change their clothes. The food is terrible cold at the time that arrive to the patients. Very difficult situation for the patients and staff . No housekeepers comes to clean the room and take the garbage out. This hospital ER and the 1st and 3rd floor looks like a Third World Country hospital. Can't believe how much they charge the patient with little decent services. Bad reputation at this moments. Used to be a great hospital. Very sad this place is going down the hill. The only good things are the staff they are amazing, caring and they always have a smile on their faces.
I recommend the TGH pediatric ER. We took our daughter here on October 2, 2025, referred by her pediatrician due to an allergic reaction to antibiotics, where she had a severe hive. After being in 2 of the largest children's hospitals in the area 4 times, twice each, they never performed any tests or other procedures. They gave her Benadryl and sent her home. Out of the 4 times, they only gave her steroids once, 1 dose of steroids per mouth, and sent her home. However, at no time during any previous visit to the children's hospital ERs were any tests performed on her, even though they observed that she wasn't improving. Here at TGH pediatric ER, of all the three children's ERs we visited in the past couple of days, this is the only one that performed various tests and admitted her to monitor her progress. The care has been great. Overall, the service is excellent. Dr. McLeroy and Dr. Seguias, along with their team, are all outstanding. We are deeply grateful to these two doctors and their team for everything they have done.
