Doctor Gutierrez is awesome, but Memorial Hermann only cares about making money

What an amazing transformation in my uncle! Watershed event stroke in august, short stint in skilled nursing facility, home health therapy September to November. These therapists have done more for him in 2 weeks than all the treatments he has gotten in 2 months. Yes, they have better resources but just wow! One more week and I look forward to the daily greetings from the staff and the cafeteria food… every hospital/in patient rehab could take their cue from TIRR Memorial Hermann! Be prepared to spend a small fortune on parking! If you come daily to visit, as I do, this could be quite a hardship!!

Can't say enough good things about the nursing staff here. The doctor we had was just okay, flip-flopping on her words and not following through with her statements. When you say you're going to fight to keep a patient by speaking with insurance and then us finding out she didn't even try was quite a disappointment. But what's really disgusting is the fact that the case workers (all three that we had the misfortune of dealing with) asked my mom, on multiple occasions, to pay them in CASH to get my dad transported, stating that was the only way he could get flown home. We later found that the transportation that took him home stated that they never, ever, would have asked the family to foot the bill. Honestly, this is extremely sketchy. I can't imagine how many people they have tried to take advantage of while in desperate times. If you are staying here and the case workers ask you for cash for ANYTHING, don't back down. They try to use scare tactics. It's repulsive.

TIRR, is where I did my rehabilitation after my fatal car accident, when my oldest brother died. This was Christmas Day of 1981and my brother died on April 1st of 1982. When I was transferred to TIRR, I was only 15 years old and just woke up out of my closed TBI - traumatic head injury 🤕. I was a model for TIRR in the Texas Medical magazine and was praised for my artwork. I learned how to drive with hand controls their in Downtown Houston and exercise with long leg braces. After 42 years, not a day goes by of my memories of waking up and starting my life over again. Do they still have transfer class to the Herman Park Zoo? This was one of my favorite things to do, while in TIRR. They also had MAD day, modified awareness day, where certain celebrities came to visit the patients. My social worker was the best and possibly responsible for the activities, but had her own issues, bless her heart. She was dating a radio DJ and my doctor found her unresponsive. Still trying to accomplish my goals with my book. Just writing this helped me feel better and grateful ☺️. Thank you TIRR for my past adventure. This is me in highschool on Initiation day as a senior in highschool. A freshman pulling my wheelchair 1984.

Chuck in the kitchen is AMAZING . I came her last year in 2024 & i was in a verrrry dark space in life . I love him so much , it's easy to say someone makes you smile for the moment . But Chuck is just a ray of sunshine & he's so easy to open up & talk to. Although he works in the kitchen he's very helpful & sweet .If you ever get the chance stop by the kitchen , he cooks your food soooo good . & he keeps a good spirit no matter your circumstances he ALWAYS has time to talk & give you hope . I love him & appreciate him . I wish they'd give him the respect & love he deserves . so to Chuck here's a Special shoutout to you , we appreciate you & we love you . Keep going even when times are tough .
