Much BETTER experience than Leigh and Norfolk General. Thank you to all involved, I was treated with so much care and they kept me clean. The food wasn't too bad either. Actually flavorful. Overnight nurses and managers were great, and caring. Choose this hospital if you need surgery or minimally invasive procedure.
I was admitted to Beach General through the ER as a trauma patient and required emergency surgery following an unfortunate accident. I spent several days in the ICU followed by a few days on the post-surgical unit. From the ER staff to the trauma surgeons to the ICU team, my experience was incredibly positive. Every nurse I encountered was kind, caring, and efficient. The medical teams, including the ICU and trauma doctors, PAs, respiratory therapists, and countless others, were amazing. Everyone was exceptional. The housekeeping team and food services people were also great. Without question, these people saved my life, and I am filled with gratitude for the hours and energy they dedicate to their work.
I was admitted to the hospital with Syncope. The ER Nurse Shirley was the most fantastic ER nurse i ever worked with. However that was just the beginning. After I was admitted Dr Paik was my Dr, Lacy, Kathy Alice, Maddie and Emily were my nurses they were the most fantastic nurses ive ever experienced. The Diety Girl Tahsara (i think thats wrong) was the most delightful person the house keeper Joan was just as amazing. I had the most amazing experience Melanie was such an intelligent, kind and prepared CNA that helped me without hesitation. I was in Room 413 on med surg. And the team was more than amazing. Ive never thought I would miss leaving a hospital. They all worked together to figure out my curious case and find answers. I will forever pray for all these wonderful people that the world treats them as kindly as they treated me💙
I came to this hospital early on Friday, October 31st, after waking suddenly with severe shoulder, back, and chest pain radiating into my arm, along with shortness of breath and nausea. I wanted to ensure I was not experiencing a medical emergency. Upon arrival, security and the front-desk staff were kind and attentive. The triage nurse saw me promptly after I explained my symptoms. However, the care that followed was deeply disappointing and concerning. While I was in visible distress, gasping for air and struggling to speak, the nurse told me before running any tests that I was “too young to be experiencing a cardiac event” and that it was “probably just anxiety.” I explained that my symptoms did not feel like anxiety and asked to be fully evaluated. They performed an EKG and took blood samples but never communicated any lab results. I was moved to another room, where it appeared a shift change occurred. My pain worsened significantly, and when my sister went to get help, the nurse stated she had “just arrived” and would return after speaking with the doctor. Eventually, a doctor (I believe Dr. Manuel Armada) reviewed my EKG and a portable chest X-ray, stating that both were normal. Although that was reassuring, I still felt something was very wrong. I asked if further testing could be done, given the nature of my symptoms, but was told there was no need. The doctor compared my EKG to test results from a cardiologist appointment 3–6 months EARLIER and again attributed my symptoms to anxiety, despite my repeated insistence that this episode felt completely different. When I later asked about my blood work, I was told it hadn’t been run because the physician “didn’t think it was necessary.” I was ultimately discharged with a prescription for hydroxyzine (anxiety medication) and told to rest. I left feeling dismissed, unheard, and very unsafe. Once home, my symptoms persisted and worsened. Every time I laid down or bent over, I experienced a crushing chest sensation and still couldn’t take a full breath, with persistent pain in my chest and back that just wouldn’t go away. I went to the ER at Sentara Princess Anne, where I was immediately evaluated thoroughly and compassionately. There, they ran another EKG, full blood work, and a CT scan, after finding my D-Dimer was elevated, which did end up ruling out any serious conditions. From there, I was discharged with the proper medication and care plan. I am incredibly grateful that nothing life-threatening was missed, but it easily could have been. The first hospital’s approach was rushed, dismissive, and below the standard of care expected for someone presenting with chest pain and shortness of breath. For that reason, I cannot and WILL NOT recommend Sentara Virginia Beach General for emergency care. Patients presenting with potentially life-threatening symptoms deserve to be heard, taken seriously, and fully evaluated, not sent home with assumptions and anxiety medication.
I've seen lots of negative reviews but have to say my stay was EXCELLENT. I had to have an unplanned semi emergency surgery requiring a 4 say stay and everyone on the 4th floor from doctors, nurses, cafeteria staff, and cleaning staff were so kind, professional, patient and attentive. The ER only had a 5 minute wait but that might have been due to my circumstances in having a rather rare type of surgical need that isn't seen often in adults Special shout out to nurse Maddy and nurse Ritchell (think i spelled that right) as they were the real MVPs of taking care of me after surgery. They took such amazing care of me and were so sweet with family visiting and even my small children when they came. They listened, stopped when I needed something and made sure I was always comfortable. To top it off, they were funny and personable making an unpleasant healing experience nice. Doctor Yang was clear and concise on my care and what would happen for surgery so it calmed my nerves. He even personally called my husband at almost midnight to update him after surgery as he was home with the kids. Overall, wonderful experience. Only suggestion would be making sure they provide insurance info to surgery center handling billing. Got a massive bill and when I called was told hospital never gave them my insurance so they submitted it.
