Came in with a broken thumb. The nurse was very kind and gentle, the doctor stopped by and stole the show though. Not so gentle but made up for it in humor. Thanks to the both of you. Doctor with tattoos on her finger and wears glasses btw, didn't catch eithers name !
I took my daughter to the ER at EORH in the early morning on 1/6/25. Our experience was the best ER visit experience that I have ever had. There was no wait in the waiting room, the registration clerk was very friendly and got us back right away. The nurses were all so wonderful with my daughter (she is 8) and started her IV and got blood work from her, and talked her through it. They then took her back for a CT of her abdomen and our radiology tech was very kind and compassionate with my daughter and helped calm her fears of the CT. While awaiting those results, the nurses were consistently asking if we needed anything, brought her blankets and pillow, put on SpongeBob for her to watch and gave her some ibuprofen and Tylenol for her pain. Dr Shafer was the ER physician and he was wonderful as well. Once her results came back he took me aside and explained the results and took his time to help me understand exactly what they meant. At the end of our visit the nurses gave my daughter a little stuffed panda. She loved it. The nurses were Amanda and Justin. We were treated like family more than we were treated as patients and that is what makes EORH so wonderful. ❤️
The ER staff, Dr. O'Karmas office, the surgical department and finance department have all been fantastic. The care I've received has been outstanding. They have all addressed my medical issue so thoroughly and quickly. I couldn't be more happy.
I took my son to the ER for what turned out to be a hairline break to his arm. Although they were busy, my son was seen quickly, x-rays taken, and an orthopedic surgeon came to see him. We were in and out within 2 hours. I don't deal with WVU, and I'm grateful that we have this alternative.
My close family member had to be rushed the ER in an ambulance Thursday night for shaking and blacking out. We followed the ambulance and got there at the same time they did. When we went to the check in/waiting area, we told the ladies at the desk that we were there to see her. They told us we would need to wait until she's checked in, they would LET US KNOW, and then ALL of us could go back and see her. They never let us know that she was ready, even though we sat in chairs right by the check in window. My family member had to call us to ask if anyone was coming back to see her after we had already been there almost an hour. Then they tell us only one of us can go back at a time. That's fine, it's just not what they told us before. When it was my turn to see her, I couldn't find her room. I saw a doctor standing by laughing with some nurses. I said, "excuse me?" He made eye contact with me, ignored me and walked past me. I looked at him and said "could you point me in the direction of a patient's room?" He rolled his eyes, and very rudely said "Where?" I told him her name and he told me the room number. When I got back there, she told me no staff had been in to see her since the nurse almost an hour ago to put her IV in. I understand they were busy but I saw close to about 10 nurses and doctors standing just talking, not about medical things. The doctor finally came in, and then one of the nurses. They are the reason this has 2 stars instead of 1. The 2 of them were the only kind caring people in that hospital. They said they were going to run all the tests to figure out what was wrong with her. I don't know what their names were or else I would say. When it was my boyfriend's 2nd turn to go back to see her, he asked the lady at the check in desk if she could unlock the door so he could go through, which you had to do to get through to the ER rooms. She very rudely asked "where are you going?" He told her and she said "is anyone else back there?" There wasn't. We had already asked her many times to open the doors for us because there were 5 of us there switching out to see her. They also had to be asked multiple times to get her water and ice. When the nurse finally brought it to her she shoved it in her hands and yelled "there's your water" even though she could barely hold anything. When they finally discharged her, they gave her prescriptions to medication that counteracts with medication she's already on. They told her she would be fine and to go on as normal. Today she blacked out again and is back in the ER. So she definitely wasn't fine. This time she's at a different hospital. We'll never go back to this one. They don't seem to care about their patients at all.
