A Lady there named Keshia would purposely try and make the experience bad/ not fun at all because she said that we were there to get better not have fun. She made my depression worse and she gave me a reason to avoid trying to get help when I need it.

I am only writing this review online because when I tried calling the hospital to try and reach the team who treated my daughter to discuss my concerns, I was told I was too late. My autistic daughter was admitted here for self harm and SI and had a new diagnoses of PANS going in. Her immunologist and psychiatrist at VCU had wanted to admit her there (to VCU) but they were full, so we had to come to CHKD. They wanted to treat her for a PANS flare with steroids because it was well known to her that my daughter did not respond to psych meds. I shared all of this information and contact information with the admitting NP. Not once did anyone call the immunologist or the psychiatrist even after I gave them the contact information. My child's immunologist did call but was never called back. In the end my daughter left much worse then she was when she was admitted. She was quite literally dripping blood and squatting on the floor when I went to get her and I was- in no uncertain terms -assumed to be the source of my daughters trauma. In addition, they told her she was being discharged immediately beforehand. For an autistic child this is a really bad idea and made things much worse for all of us. My child was so traumatized by this admission she literally spoke no words for 3 months afterwards. One other red flag is that in the documentation they lied and said that she and I participated in family therapy - there was absolutely no family therapy because my child did not see or speak to me the entire visit. A few months later my daughter had plasmapheresis at VCU for PANS and is a new person. NO suicidal thoughts, NO mental health diagnoses, NO self harm and of course no more accusations of abuse against the parents. This was obviously traumatic for me too and I wish the hospital had let me speak to someone on the phone about my concerns. I'm just grateful that she is doing better now. Addendum: The Children's pavilion replied asking me to call patient relations. This is what I did and was told I was "too late" to report any problems. I was never able to speak to anyone and no one ever called me back. All I wanted was for the providers to have more knowledge of PANS and autism for the future.

My grandson was admitted on Friday evening & I came with him. I was made to believe someone would sit down with me & give me an overview. This did not happen: I was told by a staff member visitation was whenever but they like it finished up by 7pm & phone calls are whenever. I arrived Saturday before 3pm to visit & was informed that visiting hours don’t start until 4pm. I was not happy with the misinformation provided. The charge nurse did let me come visit him for a bit before group:

Absolutely healing, amazing place where I was able to truly feel, and get better. After having an absolutely haunting experience at a prior hospital my standards were low however I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of care, love, and genuine support from the staff. Both the staff and nurses are very friendly and they are also very understanding and down to earth. They often participate in group activities as well as taking the time to personally connect with the patients. This place was very healing and the staff both at the hospital as well as the pavilion were absolute angels and I cannot thank them enough for the care I was provided during some of the worst times of my life.
