I used to speak so highly of Sibley’s ER, often saying that I would travel the 30 mins it takes to get here just for the level of care they give. Well, that has all changed with one ER visit. I’ve been to their ER before and had one of the most pleasurable experiences than I’ve ever had ant any other hospital. They were fast, courteous and thorough. While my check-in was swift, getting seen took forever. I’ve now been sitting in a room, in a gown for almost two hours. No one has checked in on me or given me any updates. Lots of irate people coming in disturbing others that was waiting. I was supposed to get an Iv but so far all I have is the tube stuck in my arm with nothing. I finally hit the button for a nurse to check on the status of being seen and to tell her that the Iv prep was starting to hurt. She flushed it and the took more vitals. I’m starting to wonder if any of this would have been done had I not hit the button. I asked how much longer and she said the doctor was waiting on the results but I only had bloodwork and I told her I already have the results in the portal. She said “oh”. I guess that’s the excuse they give you to make you feel like you haven’t been forgotten. Nurse left and left my curtain halfway open so I’m just sitting in the bed making sure to document this entire ordeal. Also, the room I’m in had two trash receptacles piled high. Someone finally came to empty those and while he pulled the bag out something clear was leaking from it and he just left it there. I expected more from Sibley because they were always top tier. Sad to see how they have gone to the pits. Update-I had an IV prep in my arm for almost 5 hours and never received an IV. Arm is still sore.
It's been almost two years. I saw a video circulating with a woman in labor in a Texas hospital and she was completely ignored. This got me thinking , how do Black women know where to go? How do we know where is safe for us and our babies? Well I had my Twin girls at Sibley. Their MFM department were overall phenomenal my entire pregnancy. We were gifted the craziest goodies in a nice duffle bag. They called one of my twins the "Big one" and the other twin was IUGR. Well after my last MFM appointment I was scheduled for induction the next day. Instead of risking it they sent me straight to labor and delivery or semi- emergent c-section. It wasnt the birth plan. But our lives were in their hands and they did well. That "big one" lived up to the reputation at over 7 lbs and her sister at 4. I am glad they kept an eye on my Twin B and brought her earth side healthy and whole. No NICU stay for my girls. Bless the hands of those doctor and the MFM department. I type this as my kids run about , happy , healthy and strong. Sibley is MARKED SAFE from this Black Mom.
My recent experience at Sibley Memorial Hospital has been extremely disappointing. Patients here are left largely unattended. Basic needs are ignored — they are not offered water, not asked if they can eat, and there is no meaningful check-in or communication from staff. There is a noticeable lack of compassion and presence. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity and attention, especially when they are vulnerable. Unfortunately, what we experienced feels like abandonment, not care. Healthcare should be about humanity, respect, and responsibility. This hospital needs to take a serious look at its patient care standards, because people come here seeking help — and they are not receiving it.
I had an absolutely incredible first time birth experience at Sibley- the staff exceeded my expectations and every single person I came into contact with was so pleasant and helpful. The nurses came into my room SO quickly and were so so so helpful, specifically I remember Shanice and Marie on the delivery floor, and Jai on the post p floor during night shift. Dr Kerr was my delivery doctor and Dr. Sherman was my doctor the day before- both attentive and great. My experience was so comfortable, food was great- I had to come write a review. I am so thankful.
The environment here is very good. Every staff member is very enthusiastic and patient. My little baby was born here. I am very happy to meet the professional team here. Although there will not be too many such experiences in life, but With such a small chance that you can meet such a good team, it means that the staff here are of a standard at all times! My wife has always been in the maternity department at Georgetown University Hospital, but at that time there was an emergency, there were no beds there, so I was forced to transfer here, so we were not familiar with this place from the beginning, but the quality of medical care here is still impressive. I am very satisfied and amazed! Thank you to all the medical staff who serve us, as well as our chief surgeon, Dr. Green!
