Such an awful experience, Me and my Husband came into the ER around 9:40am and wasn’t seen until 12pm. He was in excruciating pain and wasn’t given pain medications until 1pm and was only given a CAT Scan on one of his 2 injuries. We were told by a nurse they were fully staffed and having a slow day yet we’ve waited 8 hours, then we were told they are short staff on doctors. Only Doctor we saw was rude and impatient with my husband, and by the time we were able to be discharged it was already 6pm. So much for protecting and serving our disabled vets.

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this review while still on hold with your enrollment office, having waited one hour, forty minutes, and counting as of this moment. My call was placed at 10:55 a.m. ; it is now well past noon, and no human voice has yet intervened. I have received care at multiple VA facilities, including Norfolk and Portsmouth (which are insanely busy), and have never encountered anything remotely approaching this level of disregard for patients’ time and dignity. To leave veterans (many of whom are elderly, disabled, or managing complex medical conditions) languishing on hold for nearly two hours is not merely inconvenient; it is a profound institutional failure. This is not the occasional understaffed day or a brief technical glitch. This is what happens when leadership treats telephone access as an afterthought rather than a fundamental component of healthcare delivery. A hospital that cannot (or will not) answer its phones in a timely manner signals to every veteran that their time, their health, and their service to this country are not priorities. Whoever is responsible for overseeing operations at this facility needs to recognize that these marathon hold times are not anomalies, they are symptoms of deeper mismanagement. Patients deserve far better than to be abandoned in an endless digital queue while attempting to access the benefits they earned through their sacrifice. This is not entitlement speaking. This is a veteran speaking, and I am both appalled and exhausted. Immediate corrective action is required. *Edit* I called back twice and on the second callback I was connected to what sounded like another VA patient who was yelling at someone named Bryson and telling him to "leave it alone! I gotta hear when these people pick up the phone". I attempted to notify the speaker that she wasn't connected to the hospital but she had inbound audio muted so she couldn't hear me. All in all I don't believe the employees at this VA hospital even know how to use the phones on location. This is an embarrassment.

Andrea, the girl who works the front desk when u first enter the building, has the best customer service and personality I have ever seen. They did a really good job hiring her and I hope she does really well. She was exceptionally kind and welcoming.

UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW FROM DECEMBER 2023: I reinforce my opinion about the wonderful care & treatment I received at Audie Murphy VA hospital. I just had my second spinal surgery on 13 June, and again, I could not have asked for better. The respect from the staff was great. I felt like I really mattered and was a priority. My post surgical care in the SICU was outstanding. My nursing staff from Laura, Jerry, Taylor, Susan, Tawyna, and more was top notch. 2 of the head nurses, Shay and Billy, lead by example. It was great that they were both fellow Marines. I truly feel that I was in the best hands. I left my stay at Audie Murphy with admiration and respect for the good people who took care of me. DECEMBER 2023: BEST care, treatment, and communication with staff than I've ever had at any military, civilian, or VA hospital. I was an inpatient for 7 days after major spinal surgery and couldn't have asked for better care or received better care. The doctors took time to talk to me without rushing or making me feel like I was a bother. Nursing staff was all respectful, took time to talk to me, and again, I felt like I wasn't a bother. Shay (a fellow sister Marine Veteran) was my ICU nurse, and she was amazing. She knows great patient care. Shandau, my CNA helped me shower, and I never felt uncomfortable around her. She was very respectful and helpful. The nursing staff on the 2W ward, Jessica, Jasmine, Chris, Christine, Sam, and others made me feel respected by everyone from the clerks to surgeons. When I started to walk the floor, the nurses gave me encouragement, and the clerks always said hi. I feel lucky to have been a patient at Audie Murphy. My neurosurgeon is the best, I trusted him and respected him. I felt like he respected me as well. I will have more surgery in the future and have no fear or concerns about the great folks at Audie Murphy VA hospital.

Our veterans deserve better than this!!! What are we doing if not caring for and protecting the men and women who so selflessly run toward the fight so we don’t have to?! Marks’s life was in the hands of this facility and enough was not done to keep him alive. This is absolutely heartbreaking and the doctor responsible for his care should be held accountable!
