Updated Review: I had one of the most unethical experiences I have ever had at Carolina Pulmonary & Sleep Clinic. I scheduled an appointment on August 27, 2025, specifically to renew my CPAP supplies, which I confirmed ahead of time. The provider ignored the reason for my visit, did not order or supply anything related to CPAP, and instead spent the time discussing weight loss medication that I never requested. I paid $130.28 upfront for a service that was never performed. Weeks later, I received another unexplained bill for $98. When I asked for an itemized statement, billing could not explain what the charge was for and kept sending the same generic summary. A billing representative eventually said they would issue a refund, then told me it would only be processed if I took down my negative review. When I asked him to repeat himself because I was recording, he immediately hung up and stopped answering calls. They are now refusing to issue my refund because my honest review remains posted. That is retaliation and it is illegal under the Consumer Review Fairness Act. Patients deserve honesty, transparency, and to receive the care they came in for. What I experienced instead was deception, retaliation, and complete disregard for basic ethics. Avoid this place entirely. Original Review: I had a very disappointing experience at Carolina Pulmonary & Sleep Clinic. I scheduled an appointment on 8/27/25 specifically to get new CPAP supplies. I was told up front the visit would cost $130, which I paid. During the appointment, the provider did not order the CPAP supplies I came in for. Instead, he ordered labs and spent the time discussing weight loss medication, which was not the reason for my visit. About a week later, I received another bill for $98, with no itemization of what the charge was for. When I contacted the billing department and asked for an itemized bill, they could not explain the charges and repeatedly sent me the same generic statement. I was only told the balance was “due to deductible,” but no one could tell me what service it applied to. Patients deserve transparency and to receive the care they came in for. In my case, I was misled about the cost, billed again for unclear reasons, and left without the supplies I needed.
I take this moment to appreciate and thank Dr Priyan Samarakoon for his excellent service. I initially met him in 2016 to get help as I was facing difficulties with my sleep and tiredness during the day . He immediately ordered my sleep test and identified the cause as obstructive sleep apnea . He put me on bipap which helped to control my sleep apnea and helped me to sleep well and feel better during the day. I have been using my bipap machine every night since then. I moved to different location due to job change in 2018 and came back to meet him after 9 years. This time also he helped me to schedule and complete my sleep test quickly and got my new bipap machine and reviewed my sleep results and adjusted my pressure accordingly. I am thankful for the wonderful care and service he has provided me every time I visit him.
Impossible to coordinate with front desk staff. Doctor seemed very knowledgeable and helpful, but I will not be booking another appointment with this facility so long as their front desk staff has so many issues. A shame!
My father has been a patient of Dr. Samarakoon's for 12 years now. I can't tell how amazing he, and his staff are. He's efficient, detailed, kind and his bedside manners are impeccable! No matter if my Dad is in the hospital or coming for his office visits, Dr. Samarakoon, is ALWAYS there for him. His knowledge and way of explaining things to my Father, concerning his health is top notch. He never, ever makes him feel intimidated at all. I say all of that to say that choosing Dr. Samarakoon, a to be his Pulmonologist is one of the best choices we've made since moving to NC.
I can’t speak for civilians receiving treatment from this office and the provider, but from the military perspective he is terrible. He overbooks his appointments, to the point I walked out of 3 of them after waiting 45 minutes past my scheduled time. He also charged me $20 to fill out a simple FAA flight waiver that I could have input the data on and just had him sign. Go somewhere else!
