I would not recommend treatment at this facility for anyone with a history of psychiatric diagnosis. I came in there today complaining of sudden onset extreme sleep apnea. My doctor didnt even inspect my nose and throat, just ordered me a sleep study for some point in the future. The time frame was not even remotely specified. What are we talking? One month, 2 months down the line? It is a serious medical emergency if a bipolar person cannot get REM sleep for even a week. When I tried to follow up to see if I could go to Marquette or out of state to be seen sooner, I was stonewalled by hospital administrators who all thought that type of thing was someone else's job. Furthermore, when my doctor and I discussed my co-occuring bipolar disorder, she only seemed to be aware of two medicines to treat bipolar, out of tens or hundreds of different ones on the market. Prior to this she also made another serious error of judgement, attempting to treat acute mania with a drug that takes two weeks to start working. I do think that with better training she is capable of being a good psychiatrist, because she listens to patients and has a great bedside manner, but she needs to go back to school to study psychiatry until she feels comfortable prescribing more than two medications. I don't blame her idiotic treatment decisions on anything except a lack of education. However, if one works in a small town as a doctor and there are limited options for referral, one should have at least a basic knowledge of common mental illnesses. She should have at least enough knowledge not to make a bipolar person with sudden onset extreme sleep apnea wait several months for a sleep study.

Dr. Woodward is a gem! He is extremely thorough, educated, and resourceful. He explained more to me about an existing medical condition than my specialty doctor. He dedicates a great deal of time to you and your needs. Absolutely remarkable!!!!

My appointment was made that afternoon due to my urgency and everyone was helpful and polite. I'm from out of state and Dr. Wegener listened attentively and proceeded with the necessary treatment. I am very appreciative of the care I received.

Dr. Mark Brown of Aspirus Laurium clinic is great as my Primary Care Provider! He explains everything in layman's terms, is patient, and listens then addresses my concerns in a way that isn't judgmental or condescending which isn't always the case with doctors from my experience (in general, not just at Aspirus).

From the moment you enter the Aspirus medical center in Laurium you're greeted with kindness, respect and professionalism. The entire staff, from the help desk to the physicians, are stellar at helping patients feel relaxed, heard and truly cared about. I worry about trumps massive cuts to Medicaid negatively affecting this small rural hospital, the fine folks who work there and the people in the community.
