When I saw that someone else left a negative review of Christus St Vincent Sleep Center, I wondered why I hadn't done so. My bad experience in November 2022 ran the gamut of delayed and disorganized communications from the Sleep Center itself, coordination of requirements for the sleep study with my doctor, and finally, the terrible experience itself. I tried to contact an ombudsman or patient advocate at Christus, but they apparently don't have one, or at least it wasn't apparent to me online. During the study itself, I was subjected to political rantings by my sleep technician as she was hooking me up to all of the sensors. I was so disquieted by her that I had a hard time falling asleep. I was told by my technician at the beginning that I could have my designated driver pick me up at 5:00 a.m. sharp. Guess what? I think she fell asleep at the wheel! I eventually fell asleep, but I HAPPENED to wake up at 5:00 a.m., the time I should have been already been done and prepped to leave. I rang the bell to get her attention for at least 5 minutes, and she finally rushed into my room in a kind of huffy clumsy way. I asked her why I wasn't awakened earlier so I could be ready to leave at 5:00? She lied and said that I was sleeping and she didn't want to wake me up. What? I think SHE WAS SLEEPING in the office during my sleep study! She was rushing me so much that she decided to nip any negative review by me in the bud and elected to give me a verbal questionnaire about the experience on the spot instead of the written forms that she should have given me while she disconnected me from the equipment. Terrible experience. Very unprofessional from almost every angle. The only good part of this review is that the room itself was comfortable and clean. It appears the hospital or sleep center is now responding to these reviews online. Odd that I have to resort to leaving a Google review to contact my healthcare provider about my bad experience, but it appears that things haven't changed much there. If you're reading this as a prospective patient, I recommend avoiding this place.
Room assignments need to be strategic with early check ins as far away from the snack station as possible. My check in was at 7:15 thus after prepping with the tech, I was ready to sleep at 8:30 which is very close to my regular bedtime. I was sleepy and ready to begin HOWEVER, my room was located right across the snack station so there was chit chat and activity right outside my door. This was similar to a hotel room right next to the elevator. When I rang the technician, he said things would quiet down at 10:00-10:30 because they had a full house. He supplied ear plugs but they did not shield the chatter. In the end, I only got two good hours of sleep. At 3:30, the technician advised that I was free to leave as I had been awake for several hours and advised that I would not be using the CPAP because I hadn't achieved sufficient sleep hours to implement. I had been looking forward to that part of the study and the results in general to address my health issues. In all, I feel the effort was a waste of my time and resources. I could have potentially gotten a few more hours of sleep had I not experienced the initial agitation of noise in the hallway outside my door.
1. They had scented sheets on bed - I am very allergic to that. Had a severe reaction. I called and left a message and asked for a return call. NEVER HAPPENED. 2. My husband ordered a sleep study - it took 6 months for the appt and three hours before going in he gets a call and they say insurance won’t cover it. This was absolutely not true. It was covered and in six months they waited to confirm a week before? It was covered - it was ordered by hospital and doctor. Are you kidding? How about you screwed up the scheduling! They said oh! You didn’t get our e mails? NO- you probably never sent them. When and where were they sent and by whom? They had no clue. This is the WORST managed place I have ever seen. Not many choices in SF but come on. Do SOMETHING correctly! I don’t trust that they know what they are doing. Absolutely AWFUL. SHAME ON YOU.
If I could give this zero stars I would. I just called to find out when I could pick up and "AT HOME" sleep machine. No visit with the doctor, just picking up the machine. I was told it would be the end of November before I could pick it up because they have to do it as an appointment. As I was questioning how this can be possible since it is just picking up a machine, the scheduler, Irvin was laughing in my ear as he transferred me to the manager. Of course he sent me to a non working number. I called back and he said he was laughing because he was "in shock" that I was asking about why it will take so long to simply pick up a machine. Having bodies in a seat at an office is not having a working employee. People like this are what makes it so difficult to get anything done medically in Santa Fe. Do better!
Jason was a consummate professional, the room was clean, quiet and comfortable (hotel comfortable anyway). It is not a great experience but Jason and his crew made it bearable, they were attentive throughout the night, explained the procedure and what they hoped to learn from the tests. Just hope that Christus is able to keep the fine staff they have here as they have a tendency to underpay their people and they wind up moving on to better situations.
