I use the VA a lot and have had nothing but very professional, high-quality care at the Las Cruces clinic. A smallish clinic but they do their best to serve veterans. Sure, it would be better to have a larger facility to be able to offer more specialized services. But that is not really a reflection of the dedication, competence, and professionalism of the clinic employees.
I had a good experience at this clinic. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating. NP Mel was thorough and caring.
Excellent care by all the VA health system, but the phone system is not a good system for contact. and the VA system as a whole is a wreck for the veteran. The VA as a whole has the idea that if they can deny claims long enough you will die and they will not have to pay for your claims. As for the health system itself, it is A number 1.
They never tell you that you are responsible for getting the results from community care appointments to them. I called the community care line and they were incredibly rude. I then called the healthevet line and they told me I had to get my own results and fill out an information release form even though my VA doctor (that in not a doctor) ordered the tests. That is BS. As a followup, I got a letter from the El Paso va a week after the original post stating that I was being transfered to the Albuquerque va. Wow.
La Jolla, CA, Appleton and Milwaukee, WI put this place to shame. A month or more wait for anything you need. Doctors difficult to understand. Idk if it’s just underfunded and/or overloaded, but I absolutely would not recommend moving to Las Cruces if you really need care. El Paso is trash, too.
