What a great experience at RiverView Health. This is the first time we’ve had a procedure here and literally from the wonderful (friendly & encouraging) front desk person @ 7am this morning, to the pre-op/post-op nurse Sara, to the anesthesiologist and then lastly to Dr. Murphy, it has been absolute positive experience and they always made me feel like a part of the team making it personal. “Mom, this is how we typically do it, but do you see a need to change anything up for Jentree?” I love this place.
I took my son to the emergency department for heat exhaustion, as his symptoms weren’t improving after an hour and a half. Upon arrival, the receptionist was very kind. I had my son sit in a wheelchair because he was dizzy and weak, and I informed the receptionist that I would park the car and return. When I came back, I noticed him not in the wheelchair , which worried me And elderly nurse walking beside him when he stumbled, she told him to “keep your head up,” as if that would alleviate his dizziness. My son is quite tall for his age, making him appear to tower over her. The nurse seemed rude while taking his vitals. Although I don’t have a nursing degree, I know that a blood pressure reading of 148/89 is not “very good.” This was the third high reading, and my son could hardly keep his eyes open, which seemed to annoy her. I waited to voice my concerns to the doctor about the elderly nurse, (knowing that older individuals can be more fragile.) Clifford Chapin entered saying I know you you sprained your ankle . I replied, “probably,” as he leaned on the stand. He noted that my son was taking amoxicillin for strep, which can upset the stomach, and asked if that was the cause. I explained that it had been a few days, and he had taken it before without issue. After “examining” my son, Clifford stated that his left tonsil was enormous and asked if it hurt. My son replied no, but then Clifford suggested it might be a pus ball and asked if it tasted bad when swallowing. Again, my son said no, his eyes barely open. When Clifford stated “I guess I can run some tests”, I became frustrated and spoke up for my son, saying, “If you don’t have time for him, I will gladly drive to Grand Forks.” This seemed to anger Clifford, and he raised his voice, saying, “If you’re going to be rude, I can’t help you,” while aggressively removing his gloves. I told my son to stand up, and we went to the waiting room to grab another wheelchair. I thanked the receptionist, who was the only kind person there. I helped my son into the car and drove to Grand Forks, where they immediately showed concern, listened to my worries, and treated us with respect. I will always advocate for my children until they can stand up for themselves. Clifford , don’t let your degree diminish others; that’s a disheartening trait to possess. And to the elderly nurse, ma’am you also need to fix that nasty attitude, you might need to consider retiring.
Just recently came into Riverview’s ER with symptoms of appendicitis. I was quickly brought back and had labs and a ct scan done confirming an appendicitis diagnosis. My nurse Jessica was wonderful, explained everything, and had great bedside manner, and was extremely kind. The surgeon ( Dr.Vibeto) got me in to surgery quickly, explaining everything and was just overall a very genuine man. He made me feel safe and well taken care of. After surgery, the post op nurses and bedside nurses up on the floor were also very kind and tentative to my needs. I would absolutely recommend going here instead of Altru’s ER which has become an absolute nightmare!
If I could rate it a zero I would. Spent over an hour here with my child with a broken arm. They took x rays to confirm it was broken and sent us elsewhere and said the other hospital would be aware we were coming, only to get to the other hospital for them to inform us that the X-rays from the other hospital were not good, and that they had made a mistake when inputting our name, so we had to spend more time waiting due to their screw ups. You’re better off going elsewhere the first time
I want to document my frustrating experience with Riverview Hospital regarding my upcoming surgery. Today, they initially called me to set up my surgery, only to later inform me that they could only pencil me in because they were uncertain about my discharge plan. In response, I reassured them that I had already spoken with my aunt, who agreed to take me home if needed. Additionally, I had been in contact with both the nurse and the caregiver/social worker for the aftercare team to confirm that I also had access to rehab services. Despite providing all of this information, the representative continued to tell me that she could tell I was anxious. She was correct—I am anxious and stressed. I am facing an eight-level surgery and trying to ensure that everything is in place beforehand to prevent any surprises. I understand that many people on Medical Assistance (MA) do not have access to rehab services, but I made sure to confirm with the county that I do have this support available. As part of advocating for myself, I took the initiative to call the hospital back in an attempt to find the right department or contact person who could update my records with the necessary information. Unfortunately, I was not making much progress. Later, I received a phone call from the hospital informing me that, due to my multiple phone calls today, they would no longer proceed with my surgery. I am left questioning how multiple phone calls warrant a refusal of surgery. If I had been swearing, being rude, or combative, I might understand their decision, but that was not the case. Now, as a result of their decision, I am forced to seek surgery elsewhere in the cities, which delays my procedure and prolongs my pain. This experience has been deeply frustrating and disappointing.
