Verified patient experiences
We went to the emergency department at Blue Mountain Hospital because it was the only hospital open at 1 a.m. around Monument Valley, after our son got his fingers caught in a door. At first, we were surprised because we are French and no identification was requested from us—only a questionnaire to fill out, with no verification whatsoever that it was really our son or anyone else... After waiting for an hour, even though there were maybe only two or three other patients in the entire ER, we were asked to remove our child’s bandage ourselves. No disinfection of his fingers was done, no questions were asked about his tetanus vaccination status, and no real clinical examination was carried out apart from a visual observation of his fingers—no palpation or anything else. We then waited another hour to get X-rays in the room with a radioscope, where the images were taken in our presence. This is dangerous and serious... The radiology technician even put his hands in without any radiation protection, and the images showed large artifacts from his ring… We waited again for more than an hour to get an “interpretation,” even though we are both physicians and my wife is a radiologist, and we could already see on the images that everything was normal. We weren’t even given the actual images; I only managed to get photos of the X-rays displayed on a standard screen—not on a radiology workstation—because I insisted. Then we waited yet another hour just to be discharged, still without any disinfection performed, and we were prescribed amoxicillin even though there was no open fracture. We already had our own antibiotics with us, which ended up being useless… In the end, this all cost more than $1,000, essentially just for the X-rays, since no proper examination was ever done. I can’t even imagine what would happen if a more serious patient came in there… or the price they would have to pay to ultimately put their life in danger.
I had delivered my daughter here in February 2023. My OB was awesome! The nurses were amazing! All the staff were kind and helpful. Definitely a 10/10, they went above and beyond for my daughter and myself.
The facility and the staff are absolutely wonderful. A member of my family got very ill while traveling through rural Southeast Utah, and our trip required an overnight stay at BMH. Dr. McCullough and the whole team took great care of both of us. After we checked out the next day we joked that it should be called the Blue Mountain Hospital, Hotel & Spa. The BMH staff were efficient, effective, and incredibly kind and compassionate. Thank goodness for BMH!
I broke my Tibia and Fibula motorcycle riding and made my way to blue mountain hospital to get it surgically fixed. These medical professionals work here every day caring for you on your worst day. They care a lot about their patients. They went above and beyond over and over. I actually had fun in the hospital! The staff really did treat me like family. Thank you all so much for everything.
Similar to another reviewer my husband and I were visiting the area enjoying hiking & photography when I took a bad fall at Natural Bridges National Monument. Hospital personnel, from top to bottom, could not have been more caring. I had broken my elbow and had a bleeding head wound and was immediately taken care of. I've always been a fan of rural hospitals and this is one of the best. Locals & visitors are both fortunate to have this facility.
