I underwent a sleep study at Sound Sleep, which led to a CPAP machine prescription for sleep apnea. Nationwide Medical supplied the machine, covered by my Premera Blue Cross insurance subject to compliance requirements. My doctor explained the initial compliance criteria: using the machine for at least 4 hours nightly for 21 out of 30 consecutive nights within the first 90 days. After this period, I received confirmation of compliance from my doctor - Dr. Manhas. However, six months into using the machine, an important detail emerged: my insurance required ongoing "rolling compliance" monitoring beyond the initial 90-day period - a crucial requirement that Sound Sleep failed to communicate. When Nationwide Medical faxed my non-compliance status to Sound Sleep three months after my initial compliance period, they neglected to inform me. I remained unaware until receiving an unexpected $200+ bill from Nationwide Medical. My attempts to resolve this issue have resulted in a frustrating cycle of calls between Nationwide Medical, Sound Sleep, and my insurance provider, with each party deflecting responsibility to the others. This review specifically addresses Sound Sleep's failure to notify me about my changed compliance status despite receiving this information from Nationwide Medical, which could have helped me avoid these charges.
I don’t live in Utah but I heard that sound sleep has a mouth guard to help me breathe at night. I wasn’t in town for very long and they took take of me so well! They got everything done quickly and explained everything perfectly. I felt heard and understood. 10/10 would recommend if you have sleep apnea and don’t want a cpap machine or you don’t want surgeries that don’t actually help.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. It was the worst tech experience I’ve had—unreliable, glitchy service that made me 15 minutes late for absolutely no fault of mine. Their connection kept dropping, and they took a lot of time to fix the problem. To make matters worse, Dr. Brigit Weeks displayed condescending behaviour. The interaction made it clear that she could benefit from basic training in cultural sensitivity, equity, and inclusive communication. It is 2025—yet the mindset I encountered felt archaic and exclusionary. She perfectly understood my non-American accent until she found it stressful to decipher the name of a particular medication, and suddenly my accent was "strong". My pronunciation/spelling of the medication might not be exact—I’m not a medical professional—but I know I am perfectly intelligible. I don’t have an American accent, and I don’t need one. As someone with a doctoral degree and years of experience communicating professionally and working in academia, I am deeply proud of my English-educated, well-articulated accent. However one needs to learn that the phrase “you have a strong accent” is offensive. Also, the diagnosis felt extremely rushed, and she had no notes on it despite that I had filled out my forms well in advance. She kept repeating "I thought you were not coming", when clearly the system is flawed. Furthermore, the correspondence office showed no interest in understanding why I did not want to pursue any follow-up examinations. They were completely indifferent and perfectly content with me not scheduling anything at all. This place is a total waste of your time and money.
I scheduled a telehealth appt with Dr. Manhas that was way sooner than most other sleep clinics could get me in, so I was super excited! I was 30 mins early to ensure my computer would function well for the appt, and the staff were kind and told me the doctor would be with me shortly. She was not. I messaged her through the chat in the waiting room. She was unavailable at our scheduled time. I talked to staff and they got ahold of her and the appt started....15 mins late. And oh, it was HORRIBLE. She rushed everything, talked a million miles a minute, had asked a total of 5 questions before setting me up for multiple different tests, and tried to just end the appt right there. I kept having to ask questions myself (since she didn't really explain much) about what the tests were for, what they measured, and if an in-office overnight study was possible instead. They'd closed their sleep lab because of inefficacy, which was NOT posted on their site. You can ONLY do at-home studies here. I didn't feel confident in the legitimacy, my ability to use the machines correctly, etc., but there was no other option. She rushed the entire appt and kept trying to end it every 3 mins. In all, I saw her for 15 minutes, much to her dismay, it seemed...the staff came back in, were super nice and friendly, told me the estimated costs were about $150-$200, but that a better estimate would be sent to me later. Cut to the next day, and the email I received giving estimates (without saying how much insurance was likely to cover) was over $15k!! They offered to authorize these tests through insurance, which I told them to please do so. Then, they sent another email, very soon after, saying they "could" authorize with insurance "if absolutely necessary," and I told them to please go forward with doing that...AGAIN. After that, radio silence for 4 days, with my scheduled followup appts getting closer and closer. I said that I cannot go forward with the testing if I couldn't check with my insurance first, multiple times. They seemed to express no acknowledgement of the urgency of this claim, and gave no response at all to this. SO, I called my insurance myself, which resulted in very confusing lingo and more unease, with my Blue Shield of California not covering much for at-home testing. They cover more for in-office visits, which wasn't an option here. After all the back and forth trying to discuss billing with someone who CLEARLY did Not want to have anything to do with the billing process, I called and cancelled all future appts with them and am looking elsewhere...2 stars for friendly staff and super fast appt scheduling.
I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to share my experience with Sound Sleep Health. I had a televisit in July with Dr. Manhas, and after a 10 minute discussion, was told that I likely had sleep apnea, due to the shape of my face (and by looking down my throat). She was not personable, and rushed the visit. I was shocked that this visit cost $350, but horrified when I found out the price of the sleep study ($2000K+), which was not covered by insurance. I decided to ask for a refund and it took calling/emailing persistently over THREE months to finally get a resolution. The office manager Michael was nice, however was I was rarely able to get ahold of him, and when I did email, maybe I got a response once or twice. I had to keep reaching out because I felt like if I didn't, they would just overlook my complaint. This was a very frustrating experience, if I had read the negative reviews on Google beforehand, I would not have scheduled the appointment in the first place.
