Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Sleep Medicine Center

I contacted the Sentara Sleep Medicine office in March 2025. I'm new to the area, so wanted a local doctor, especially to help getting set up with CPAP supplies. My previous doctor wouldn't share my medical records, so Dr. Santos needed a sleep study in order to provide clinical notes to suppliers. That was done in April. Since then, every attempt to get supplies ordered/delivered have failed. Multiple orders from the doctor, and then a finger-pointing staff claimed that they don't order supplies, but also don't help providing guidance on how to order supplies. Messages go unanswered for a week or more. It's now August 2025, and no progress has been made following the original request in March. I've wasted five months with this office. I'm hunting for a new sleep medicine office to help me.

Dr. Calhoun and staff are great. Took awhile but they helped me get a new cpap. Process was pretty easy. Insurance aside and red tape, they never made that a hinderance. My old one was about 20 years old and on it's last legs. Only duct tape was holding it together. New machine works perfect.

Be very careful when dealing with this office! Dr Hammond is a good doctor. However, the practice and Sentara deal with shady billing practices. It was recommended by Dr Hammond to seek a mask fitting from the sleep center at the nearby Hilton, which I followed his direction. I was never told about a charge for the mask fitting, I was never asked about a co-pay, and I was never asked about filing this 10 minute appointment with my insurance! Low and behold, Sentara billed my insurance over $300.00 for the 10 minute appointment unbenounced to me. I would get everything in writing from Sentara and their Sleep Center before you do anything and make sure that they communicate their plans about billing your insurance because they are a money grab waiting to happen by Sentara.

The. Sleep technologists, Teresa and Stephanie were both very helpful without being intrusive. The equipment is less noticeable than ten years ago and pretty easy to sleep with. All in all a much better experience than you might expect..D o it if you need help sleeping!

For over a decade I have been on a CPAP machine and struggled every night with the headgear and nasal pillows. Apparently I have a small face and nothing ever fit quite right. I was awake at least 4 times every night having to adjust the gear. Then I was referred to the MJH Sleep Clinic by my great sleep practitioner, Ellen. There I met Sarah and after talking just a few minutes, she said that she might have the solution. She returned with a full-face mask that was small and easy to use. She let me take it home and try it out. It was perfect. Thanks to Sarah’s knowledge, and her willingness to listen, she improved the quality of my life significantly. Thanks, Sarah!
