I lived in San Diego and had great care and support of veterans there. I moved to the Wichita VA system. Honestly you might be better off spending a little cash and seeing a good veterinarian. It's one horrible situation after another. My psych provider says if there is an emergency and I'm not going to be ok I can go to the VA ER in Wichita or wait till Monday morning and come down to Wichita to go to the walk in mental health clinic. Sounds there is a system there to help Veterans. NOPE I was having a panic attack so bad I was shaking like someone with Parkinson's Disease. Drove the hour to Wichita from Salina and go to the ER, I had to do this in San Diego and all I did was go to the ER and they paged the on call psych doc. Cool. 1am in the morning trying to hold myself together driving down there I get there and check into the ER and they say there is no on call psych doc. So they give me some meds that kind of help and say that they hope this works but they couldn't admit me because there are no beds. So I should try to go home and get rest and if I can't manage drive all the way back down there and they will keep me in the ER for around 48 hours until a psych doc is available again. I also can go to the walk in mental health clinic monday morning. Okay, so in San Diego you get to the walk in clinic by 7am and there are like two or three residents that get everyone seen. Well still in really bad shape I drive back down to Wichita again and go to the walk in clinic. Get in the clinic and all they have is a regular nurse. No providers at all. I drove over an hour to get there just so their nurse can send my provider an email that I already sent her Friday night. NO I didn't expect her to have read the email yet but there is no reason they should have told me there was care available when there wasn't at all. I drove all that way for absolutely no reason. I had great care in San Diego. In the Wichita system, they should just call it the doctor killpatient system. I honestly would have changed to the Topeka system but Salina is in the Wichita system but I've been told by many veterans that Topeka is better. My great uncle was a veteran and he said the Wichita VA was crap back then. I continue to hear the same things today. I'm getting sicker by the day and I tell my doctors what's going on and he pretty much said that "Yeah stress and anxiety will badly aggravate Irritable Bowel Syndrom and GERD. I already knew that when I messaged him to get help dealing with the vomiting and diarrhea and I asked for a higher dose of Zolfran for the nausea. In return he pretty much said "yeah that will happen." and then "don't take zolfran everyday its not good." So now the only thing I have for the nausea I'm not supposed to take and I should get IB Guard. Went found that and it's like $46 for peppermint oil. I'm already drinking mint and ginger tea and I don't have $46 to throw away on something that I'm going to vomit up five minutes later. I've been dealing with more and more symptoms all the time for over a year now and all they can say is the tests don't show anything. In the last three weeks I've lost over 20 pounds. My friends and family are urging me to just pay out of pocket to go see a non VA doctor (go see a real doctor is what they say), Honestly if the VA would pay for the plane tickets I would be perfectly happy to move my care back to San Diego and fly back and forth to my appointments. If you think that sounds ridiculous wait until you have health problem that requires more than just adding one more drug to your bucket then you see how ridiculous the standard of care is here.

Really nice place to visit. The reason being, is that the staff are nice. And the architecture is a bit antiquated and nice to see. I didn’t get a chance to stay very long. But the people I met were very nice.

Very helpful. Place is a bit like a maze but workers have always stopped and helped me find where to go. Saw my Primary care and the next day got call to make specialty care appointment. I've had several appointments and been very pleased with timelines, professionalism, knowledge, and courtesy.

Filed a BDD claim 179 days ago. Im officially retired and the VA still hasn't even contacted me to get my exams. They took over a month to accept my claim from my VSO. went to step 4. Went back to step 2, amd I've been on step 3 for over a month. No phone calls, not exams, nothing. Do yourself a favor and drive to another state to file bc Kansas does not take care of their veterans!

Thank you for taking care of my dad. He received excellent care, and the staff was very informative and accommodating. While I have only good things to say about the entire care team, one person stood out in particular during my dad's final days: Cassy W. I will never forget the exceptional support you provided. My dad had nothing but praise for this hospital and the care he received. Thank you for everything you did for him.
