Security let me into the labor and delivery lobby on the 3rd floor, 6-7 nurses behind the front desk were ALL on their cell phones and another nurse was on the other side of the counter I was behind… they didn’t bothered to look up once to acknowledge. The first minute I stood there. Soon as they finally noticed me when they bothered to look they quickly spread apart. Reported them to manager.

Communication was awful from the start. Front desk had no idea on time frame on when I would be seen. When I was brought back to the ER room I was told to go to a room number, never taken to it and no one checked on me for at least 45 minutes. My spouse was not allowed to come back with me because we had our son with us. I never would have come if kids weren't allowed. When a Dr did come in he was obvious an ER Dr not an obgyn that I needed due to pregnancy concerns. He did not even state that an OB Dr would be coming to see me. I would not recommend anyone needing to have their kids with them to use this ER or hospital. As well as the huge lack of communication throughout my entire experience when there. The OB Dr. was wonderful but I was never told she would be coming to see me.

The care my daughter received during her brain cancer treatment was nothing short of amazing. The medical staff in PICU and Wilcox units were so kind and helped me as a parent understand every situation we have come across. She transferred to the mainland for more treatment yet after her passing, they still kept in touch and sent thoughts & prayers. Granted, we have basically lived in there for about seven months, the medical treatment & advices they have given were more than enough.

Helpful staff. Interesting lobby with exhibits of the origin and history of the center. Parking was easy. Lobby staff was very strict on keeping the kids quiet and limiting the visitors to the rooms upstairs.

I was scheduled to do a complete hysterectomy with Dr . carney . I had several miss communication with his staffing and then my insurance that it was delayed 3 times . I finally got my surgery date and was ready for it . Met with the operating team of nurses , anesthesiologist and my Doctor after 5 hours waiting in the pre op room . My Anxiety was high and I was very hungry, I didn’t eat for 23 hours by that time . I finally went in at 430 and surgery was a success after 2 and half hours . When I woke I was hungry so asked for some crackers and ice chips but they said No we have to wait a bit bc of anesthesia and nausea setting in . I wasn’t happy . At 9 pm the nurse gave me crackers but I was so tired I took couple bites and fell asleep . By that time I was loopy sore and irritated . They kept giving me more and more meds and I said to stop my stomach is empty and the meds are affecting me . The next morning they said I could eat and they brought up a a hard boiled egg toast and scoop rice . I’m a diabetic and renal patient and know what I can eat and not eat . That was not what I wanted to eat to many carbs . I cracked the egg and it literally fell apart and shells went all over . I do not eat anything !!! I asked to talk to dietician and tile her what I can eat and not eat so we did the lunch and dinner menu . My lunch comes and it looked ok so I started with my apples . My apples tasted like onions .😧. So I went to try my toss salad took two bites and was ready for my third until I see a black ball like type hanging from the green and it had roots on it . I was pissed !!!! Took a picture of it and called the nurse and showed her what it was . She was grossed out as much as I was and took it to show the dietician . I didn’t eat anything of the food after that but threw up two times . Kitchen crew didn’t wash the veggies and or utensils . Eating raw veggies and it’s not cleaned can cause a person to throw up or get rat lung poisoning . I was sick 🤢 . All that I ate and meds given to me was thrown up . I said nope I’m not eating anything from here ! Later on that day I had dilaysis treatment and come to find out my access arm was not working and I couldn’t do treatment I needed to get another operation done asap , this is on Wednesday. Most of the staff comes in and tells me what they are going to do and I’m against it bc I don’t trust them . Dr Nyuen kept insisting to put a cat in my groin and I said no . Then she said we don’t have a vascular surgeon so we have to switch u to Straub hospital . I said no I need to talk to my own surgeon back home and see what he says . So he assured me to go to Straub and get the cat out in my chest and when I come back home to Hilo he will fix my arm . I was relieved and said ok I’ll move to Straub . I knocked out from all the chaos and trauma at Kapiolani . The ambulance came around 9;30 pm to move me to Straub . The best decision ever . Don’t get me wrong the staff was nice and good but the cafeteria food was horrible and unsafe to eat ! Thanks to the surgeon team and Dr carney .
