My pappy was having an emergency and I called in to the Emergency Room Department to let them know he was coming in. The receptionist working the ER desk at 12:49pm on the 24th of August was extremely rude and unhelpful in an emergency situation. I called to say my pappy was coming in, his name, the symptoms he was having, and was trying to relay the information I saw in a calm and collected manner, while trying not to cry. The lady on desk then scoffed and berated me for not calling 911 because I told her we were bringing him in. I was speechless and completely taken a back and couldn’t even find words to reply. She judged the situation instead of asking any questions aside from his DOB. She would have learned that instead of waiting for the ambulance to arrive because we live more than half an hour away from town. The response time for the ambulance would have taken double the time it took us to get to the hospital. In an emergency situation if you find yourself calling Meyersdale’s Emergency room to let them know you’re coming in with an emergency, please be prepared to be ridiculed instead of helped. It’s probably best to just show up instead of calling in saying you’re coming in. It is terrible enough going through an emergency situation with a loved one, but to be condemned for trying to prepare the hospital of that emergency? Wild! This situation could have ended tragically, instead of a memory of an empathic receptionist trying to help, I got a snarky receptionist who would have made me feel like the terrible situation was my fault that I didn’t do the “right” thing by her emergency standards. The mean girls from school going into healthcare trope is true. I’m afraid for the patients this receptionist is around that don’t have anyone to watch out or advocate for.
The ER staff is and has always been so respectful to my family. I always tell people to go to this location got any ER issues due to their kindness, professionalism and swiftness. Other ERs take hours to be seen and just have anything done. This location can have you in and out in under an hour in some cases. Great staff and dedicated staff.
Even though this hospital is short staffed, they took extremely good care of my fiancée in her time of need. They have hospital beds, unlike their parent company in Johnstown,PA I mean, the parent company had 30 to 32 empty beds but refused to give my fiancée a bed nor hook her up to health monitoring equipment. Yet, kept her in a wheelchair for 12 hours. Meyersdale Hospital, for being a small hospital, did an amazing overall job 👏 👌 Big hospitals aren't always good hospitals. Thank yous for being outstanding!
Cut my finger pretty bad and had to get stitches. Gave them my new insurance info and they never processed it and I received a 700 Dollar bill in the mail. Next time I’d just rather die from infection.
