I would not recommend this place to anyone. As someone that’s suffered from TMD for a long time this doctor is pompous and rude to new patients. I brought along my entire patient history and file and he tried to tell me I didn’t understand my previous treatment and that I was wrong (he later realized I was correct in what I was telling him). He wanted to do thousands of dollars worth of tests, including a new splint which would cost a lot initially and then more for each and every adjustment it needed. He seems to think his way is the only way and no one else can do what he does. See an example below from the email he sent to existing patients about his Bethesda location closing.
I have been going to Dr. Piontkowski for about 25 years. While his specialty is TMJ which I do not have, he is in general an outstanding dentist who has helped to rid my mouth of old amalgam fillings, given me two root canals, taken care of sensitivity, filled a gap between my teeth that I was self-conscious about, and even his dental assistant complements his ability to clean teeth well!
Dr. P’s treatments have pretty much completely reversed our daughter’s severe TMJ without the need for invasive surgery! Her jaw locked during her first year of college. She was unable to eat normally for a few weeks, and even took a trip to the ER. After being turned down by multiple providers (who either stopped treating TMJ or just could not fit her in), we were lucky enough to find Dr. P. Thank you Dr. P and Washington TMJ for your expertise and helping our daughter!
I was referred to this group by my dentist. Overall, they are extremely knowledgeable and professional. In addition they are very friendly which helped reduce my anxiety regarding my situation. They explain clearly everything related to the condition and the plan going forward. All appointments are handled very professionally using available communication. I would highly recommend them.
I have been treated by Dr. P for TMJ problems for a few months. I am so impressed with Dr. P and the knowledge, kindness and professionalism that he has imparted to me. Cheryl is great as well. Starting with my very first appointment, I have been impressed. I have finally received relief from over 2 decades of headaches, jaw pain and other symptoms.
