It's one of the better VA hospitals that I have been to. The Eye Cinic is excellent, Primary Care and the ER are good as well, Dental, Podiatry, Urology, and the Pharmacy, and Dermatology all are well staffed. Mental Health has excellent attending physicians. Service and therapy animals are welcome in most areas. BUT here is the dark side If you're handicapped forget about finding parking, and don't expect the staff or police to care because they are the ones parking in the spaces. The clinics and support facilities are excellent but because of the patient load follow up wait times and time to get appointments are measured in months. And when you ask for referral to community care that seems to be a hit or miss option. And the cafeteria closes early but it is not that good anyhow, just a convenient place to sit and wait for prescriptions to be filled or between appointments. So manage your expectations and understand given the patient load, the staff are doing their best. Just understand you will have to wait a lot and maybe have to walk from the free valet parking by the ER to your clinic which maybe on the other side of the hospital.
Went there today at night and the night ed nurses/doctors/pharmacist were amazing. Anything with needles were not painful at all. Everything was easily understandable, and explained perfectly. Very kind.
I love the west LA VA. They have helped me tremendously. The heros that work here are amazing and deserve praise. The entire place is amazing. The grounds crew are phenomenal just look at the trees.
This place is like a paradise away from home. Very respectful and caring staff in the recreational facilities. Bernardo chief of security gave me one of the most insightful tours. Alma at the aquatics center educated me on the proper steps on getting certified lifeguard, cpr and AED in the state of California. Very hospital and patient. This veterans hospital has to be either 1st place or in close competition with other locations.
