If you want to get anywhere with this team you have to be your own advocate. If you want a call back I suggest calling every hour and leaving a voicemail.

I would give zero stars if this was an option. Really disappointed with this facility. Our neuro left and we were referred here. (For seizures and complex medical needs) Basically after four weeks of being told they never got the referral twice and I even sent it with confirmation of time and date, then they need his records, records sent, then told they have to review his records to see if they will even except him as a patient, then they “reviewed” his records and decided they weren’t going to take him as a patient. I find this out not from them, but from his primary provider. I wouldn’t waste your time with them since they decide if you are “good enough” for a Duke facility or not. I guess since my son has disability Medicaid they’ve decided he’s not worth their time.

Horrible experience with Duke Neurology. In October, I went to urgent care after an episode of seizure-like symptoms, which I have had several times over the past year, as well as strange recurring headaches and nerve pain. I was referred to Duke. When I called them, the soonest they could get me in was March 10. I was concerned about what might transpire in my brain over that 5 month wait, but was told to keep calling back every week as there are often cancellations. I called every week for weeks on end and was just told "you're still on the waiting list!" Eventually I stopped calling and decided to wait til March, while still suffering bad headaches almost weekly, and scared to death that I might have a brain tumor or something. Today, Feb. 13, after waiting for over 4 months, I saw a voicemail on my phone saying that my appointment had been cancelled. The number they gave me to call back didn't work -- it asked for a "code" that I didn't have. After calling Duke Neurology and sitting on hold, I reached someone who told me that they could reschedule me -- but the soonest open appointment was in SEPTEMBER. That would mean a total of ELEVEN MONTHS of waiting to see the neurologist, while experiencing alarming symptoms. In fact, we are moving states in July, so my only option is to start again somewhere after our move. If I had a brain tumor or something, that would be enough time to be actually dead. I received zero sympathy or apologies from the staff person on the phone. I have never felt so powerless or felt so strongly that a medical institution truly did not care if I lived or died.

They called to cancel my appointment 3 hours before the actual appointment. Said the doctor had to leave the office this afternoon. Didn't even say it was emergency. I don't know whose to blame, the doctor or the scheduling people, but they could have called much earlier than 11am. If patients have to pay a penalty for canceling the day of then the doctor's office should pay patients the same fee. Duke is really going downhill.

After waiting months for an appointment, I received a phone call from a “no caller id” number that I didn’t answer. After listening to the voicemail message, I return the call and my call was unanswered. I left a message and never got a return call. My appointment that I had been waiting months for was canceled because the doctor will be out of the office that day. Now, the next available appointment is 3 months away! That would make it a total of 5 months that I would have to wait to see the doctor! Duke Neurology isn’t the only practice with issues with their schedulers not returning calls or waiting forever to call regarding your referral. While I like my doctors, I think it’s time I switch hospital systems!
