Met with the sleep Center technicians. They told me that potential therapies for sleep apnea is the CPAP unit and the drug called Zepbound. I tried the CPAP unit and there was no way I could use it and sleep comfortably. Was not an option. When I told them I wanted to to try zepbound and asked if they can write a prescription they said they could not. I would have to go to the weight loss clinic at Middlesex, which is now a 6 to 8 month wait. I’ll let you be the judge? I had high hopes for The Middlesex sleep clinic but now I know why they got a 1.6 rating???
Giving 1 star, because there is no option for 0 star. I called a couple of weeks ago because I had not had a study since 2020 and when the supplier of equipment changed I just got one mailing. Since it was a long time since I had my study, I figured maybe I should call the sleep center to be reevaluated. As it turns out, my last study was done in 2020. The person at the sleep center told me to have my primary care physician send a referral for the study. Mind you, I have been on the CPAP for well over 10 years, so I am not a new patient. I texted my PCP and explained the need for a referral to the sleep clinic. The PCP’s office responded within a day that they had sent the referral. Almost a week went by and since I had not heard from the sleep center, I called them to find out if they had received the referral. They told me that they had not, but that some times it took longer to get the referral. So, I waited. I got one missed call from the sleep center and I immediately called. My call went to a section of the sleep center that does not handle the scheduling and after much confusion, my call was transferred to the sleep study clinic. The woman who answered the phone was pretty combative and rude from the get go. After I attempted to explain to her about the referral and her stating that they did not have it and it was provably lost in cyber space, because my PCP was not in their system and when they said they sent it, they probably meant that they pulled it up and pressed a button and thought that the form had gone somewhere. She added that they needed to do the extra work of printing it and faxing it for the sleep center to get it. So, I asked for the fax number, and she started saying that a referral needed to be sent after I had seen my PCP in person because my PCP needed to determine if I needed the study and that they could get in trouble with the medical plan if this was not done. At this point I was ready to hang up and I just told her, forget it, I am not entertaining the circus just because this woman was obviously having a bad day and just thought she could just dish it out. I am in agreement with the reviews that state that the sleep center is a joke. DO NOT GO THERE. They are rude and totally useless and will just have you do unnecessary stuff just because they are having a bad day. I will get a referral from my PCP, but not to the sleep center in Middletown. Their quality of service is in the toilet and it should be flushed. They also falsely stated in a note to MyChart that they had made numerous attempts to contact me. I only had one missed call, the one that I returned as soon as I saw it.
The worst! Messed up at every step of the way, beginning with a tech who yelled out my full name in hospital lobby, then referring me to an out of network CPAP vendor (after waiting a month for preauthorization), then cancelling the authorization so I'd have to wait another month, then sending my info to a vendor in New Jersey... Unimaginable incompetence.
DO NOT GO HERE!! Absolute mind-blowing malpractice... After telling the doctor I could not get more then 1-2 hours of sleep at all on any given day... She said I need to sleep more to do another sleep study .. the first sleep study they gave me without my supplemental o2 which I take for 2 fatal diseases .. and she said to take another sleep study to get my asv therapy machine back which I was previously using before being displaced into CT; I need to get more sleep to take an at home test. During the sleep study that they gave me my o2 dipped down to 88% while asleep which another 8-10% would have been near fatal levels of blood oxygen concentration... I had to get up and leave due to the severity of pain. She told me to do therapy to sleep better... she told me to avoid bright lights .... Instead of blue light .. which was just shocking.. blue light from the sun is our natural trigger to start to "waking up"... A bright light can be any spectrum of light which would only impact my eyesight?!? And not sleep in any way shape or form... . How a doctor who went to school for sleep medicine gave false information is malpractice... I quote " well cellphones and tvs have blue light"... My answer was yes they emit blue light which is why we have blue light filters. But she then went on with avoid bright lights. That is absolutely pathetic. How she was able to get a degree is mind-blowing to me. Her only option for someone with extreme insomnia and a history of central and obstructive sleep apnea was to sleep more so they can repeat the sleep study. If Ive already gone through a CPAP therapy machine a bipap therapy machine and finally was getting some benefit on a 5,000$ asv therapy machine hooked up to a full face mask with supplemental o2 and barely getting results is going to rely on talking with someone about healthy sleep therapy?!? After telling her I can't walk or handle a 30 min car ride most days?!? This place is not a medical facility and should be shut down. After I was "allowed" to talk I told her I was getting treatment and my asv supplies through another facility she explained how health insurance worked and couldn't speed anything up. So thank you for telling me you could do nothing and to seek therapy. This was the biggest waste of time and a huge risk to my health. I'll never be reaching out to these quaks..they don't even know the basics of circadian rhythm... 0 stars if possible and complete malpractice... DO NOT GO HERE!!...
If I could give zero stars I would do so. We have been trying to get new CPAP supplies for 1 year for my husband. We have received various information from the supplier and the sleep center. My husband is currently using a mask held together with super glue. After numerous calls, a representative at the sleep center told me today that due to a change in our insurance (that changed 6 months ago) he needs to be seen by the doctor before he can receive new supplies. This is fine but why couldn’t someone have told me this months ago? Also, they only have notes in the file regarding my recent telephone calls when I’ve contacted them several times over the last year. Lack of communication and lack of follow through when someone’s safety is involved is UNACCEPTABLE!
