If I could give St Francis, NO STARS, I would. The care my daughter in law receive was deplorable. That is why she still is suffering from the subpar treatment received at this poor excuse of a hospital. This place should be shut down, Since going to St. Francis for a medical emergency. She is not the same vibrant person she once was. I feel the Doctor and the hospital should be held responsible. The Doctor should be reported as well and no longer be allowed to practice. St. Francis should get a Failing Grade and not perform any surgeries going forward.
This place is absolutely disgusting in both sanitation/health code and bed side manner/compassion. My wife had a hiatal hernia repair along with a revision of her gastric pouch. I left a review back in 2022 when this happened and I’m doing it again because my wife is in pain for life. Her surgery that was LAPAROSCOPIC ended with her bleeding internally, resulting in most of her blood being lost due to surgical error, then to fix it they cause a 1inch liver laceration, had to ope her up fully sternum to vagina and then a thoracotomy. THISIS NOT A LIFE SAVING MEASURE WHEN SHE CANT LIVE A NORMAL LIFE NOR DO HER JOB. She has been the most AMAZING, DEDICATED, HARDWORKING, EMPATHIC ONGOING-In the Field Social Worker for the STATE OF CONNECTICUT FOR OVER 10 years. SHE WENT FROM BEING THAT KID IN THE SYSTEM TO BEING THE CHANGE AND HELP KIDS AND FAMILIES . So for me to experience her decline from a job she was proud to do and happy with to now feeling like she lost herself due to the hands of surgeon she trusted. Dr. James Bittner never responded to our follow up calls. He didn’t care about our concerns nor gave any resources to truly put my wife in a path for success. Like if it out of your pay grade or specialty, at least direct me to the right spot. Furthermore, back in 2022 we had to return to the Emergency Room after my wife’s surgery to deal with an infection and guess what… more hernias that developed due to a hiatal hernia repair he so”graciously” did. That Emergency Room visit resulted with my wife being refused to have contact with myself, her Biological Mother that I reached out to in order to see if the nurses would let her talk to the person she birth at least (that was a no), her best friend from middles school who is a well educated and skilled nurse in her state, along with countless State Employees who work with the her to just get an update but the ER team refused. They then forcibly sedated my wife to ensure she would not “be an issue” or ask to leave. At this time we lived in West Haven. So 45 minutes south. I waited with our 6month year old puppy in that car for hours in fear that my wife was being unheard and improperly cared for. This needs to be addressed and St. Francis needs to be held accountable not only for my wife, but for the hundreds of patients/families that have been affected, not tended to and disposed of like trash by a hospital and staff that are so overwhelmed and inconsiderate that they put their own feelings, needs and anxieties above the patients. You chose to be a doctor so be a doctor and do something. Stop hiding and speak up and take accountability like any child does when they mess up.
My grandmother was admitted to St Francis Emergency Department Monday 11/10/25 at 9pm. She was transferred from Johnson because they wanted her to see a neurologist due to a bad fall with back, neck, head injuries, hypothermia. When I arrived at 10am on the Tuesday 11th my grandmother was freezing she had not eaten anything dry mouth. My grandmother laid in a hall in the emergency room for 21 hours then they moved her to a room in the ER for another 6 hours. It took 27 hours for them to get her into a normal room. There was a nurse named Tony that helped with more blankets and food only because I asked and if I wasn’t there….It was absolutely heartbreaking. He changed out the needle in her arm as I noticed the tape was not sticking to her and it was hurting her. He changed her bedding and cleaned her up. She had sat in her urine for hours, no answers with so many questions. They were so short staffed I was disgusted by the lack of care. It is now Weds 11/12/25 9am still no neurologist. Still so many questions
Never thought I'd be posting negative review to Trnity Health/St Francis website but this needed to be shared. June 2025 I'm in ER for abdominal pain.. A male nurse placed IV for CT scan with contrast. I always close my eyes when it comes to needles. When I opened my eyes nurse was leaving the room I felt something wet/warm on my sleeve. There was blood all over my white jeans, silk shirt, and on the bedsheets. Looked like a horror movie scene. The nurse never said a word about blood being on me. I was livid, complained to charge nurse. Three weeks later I get a bill for $1400 my portion after insurance paid! Long story short Grievance Dept offered $15 gift card to Panera Bread for my troubles with no bill adjustment! My cleaning bill cost more than the gc! Never have I experienced blood being drawn and somehow blood splattered all over me. It's a good thing I videotaped being in the ER room showing my bloody clothes, the bloody bed sheets which was not changed by the initial nurse. There was documentation from charge nurse when I complained. After the gift card, I got another bill. Second time I spoke with billing dept, shared my video via email and share previous email communication with Mary Lou in Grievance. As of today the balance is $0. I was ready to go to small claims if this wasn't rectified. St Francis Hospital is not the hospital it used to be in the early 2000. Staff has definitely gone downhill. If you go on tiktok you'll find all types of wrongdoings pertaining to Trinity Health. They need to do better.
Beautiful, clean hospital with modern decor. Efficient valet service for parking. Staff we're very friendly and helpful. Free parking validation for patients having a surgical procedure. The family waiting room needed to be thoroughly cleaned and the trash emptied on my most recent visit. Overall, this is one of the best hospitals I have ever been in.
