This review is for the appointment scheduling department. When you call you are lucky if you get someone who knows English and can speak it. Or perhaps there is a lot of yelling in the background and distracting noise. Come on UP health you can do better than this. And I know I'm not the only one that's experienced this.

We are new to this area. This is an ok place. The staff here is not very competent at making sure that records are read and kept accurately. We have family members that are on multiple meds for health issues and for the 6 months we've been dealing with this place they have yet to get the meds correct. We have to call the doctors office monthly after getting the meds from a pharmacy because the list of meds is NEVER correct. And each time we call with a question we are asked to make an appt to go in and consult with the doctor. SERIOUSLY?!! My family member is 90 yo and is barely mobile. Does this place think he can come in every time he has a question? What kind of medical professionals are you? Do better by your patients before the patients. It's your JOB! WOW! SHAME ON YOU! You're HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS! PROVIDE HEALTHCARE PLEASE!

Hello Portage. I injured a finger while on a side by side on October 18 this year. The damage was extensive and being an hour away from Hancock I wasn’t sure of where to go so I called my daughter who is a midwife at Portage. She told me to go to Portage and that she had spoken to the er and alerted them to my arrival. After a brief sign in I was brought into an er room where nurse Rebekah greeted me and Dr Bowman assessed the situation. As surgery was the course of action Dr. Carter, their on call orthopedic specialist, was notified and in my room within the hour. Dr. Carter spent plenty of time with me explaining the procedure and putting my mind at ease. I met with Lynette from anesthesia who determined the best course of treatment. Being very relaxed, I don’t recall any of the names of the surgery team but I know that I was treated with compassion by a team of highly trained professionals. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this hospital a 10. I would tell anyone, Portage is worth the drive. My follow up with a hand surgeon in the Detroit area had the Dr state, “ thats just the way I would’ve fixed it.” Thanks Dr C, Dr Bowman, Lynette, Rebekah and Lisa. I am happy that my daughter Ashley gets to work with you fine people.

The team that took care of me during my Laparoscopy at portage should be given an award. I was so incredibly scared and they made me feel just as cared for as loving family members would have. I literally tear up now, looking back and thinking about how scared I was, and how well they tried to manage my pre-procedure anxiety as people who didnt even know me personally. I was so afraid for months leading up to it, and if i wouldve known it would go like that, I wouldnt have stressed so much. I think future procedures I may have wont be nearly as scary leading up to it, simply because of how well this last one was managed. (I can only hope I've got an equally amazing team.) Ive been dismissed by doctors for what feels like forever, but these guys really truly nailed it. My surgery was as smooth as a surgery could go. Dr. Schexnaydre, and My nurses/anesthesia team, Emily, Janelle, and Phil at the ACU need to be given special recognition for how they treat their patients. These doctors and nurses make such a difference because of how much they care. This is how all doctors and nurses should act. Thank you so much, Phil, Janelle, Emily, and Dr. Schex!!! ❤️ I will never forget the care you guys gave me that day.

Over the last year or two I've had several experiences with the UPHS Portage Emergency Department. I've found the staff to be very skilled compassionate professionals. They have treated me with care and concern. Most recently they went the extra mile to resolve conflicting information about my previous hospitalization in Marquette. This time they worked hard to locate an open bed at an urban hospital that could meet my needs for urgent surgery and they arranged the medical flight to get me there. We are blessed to have this level of emergency care in our isolated location.
