My mother in law was admitted to the 9th floor. Keep your loved ones OFF 9th floor! The nurses don’t care about the patients. She had a purewick that they kept hooking up wrong or not hooking it up at all. She laid in urine for hours at a time when we went home at night.. We changed her bedding and cleaned her up ourselves. In the 8 days she was there she never got a bath unless we did it. When we complained to the patient advocate they claimed that the pure wick had gotten her skin raw and pulled it from her causing her to have to walk to the bathroom because they were giving her 80 mg of Lasix via IV twice per day. She is 86 yrs old and has mitro valve regurgitation and pneumonia. We had to hold her up to take her to the bathroom. Her c-pap mask came loose one night at 1:00 am so she called the nurses station. The person couldn’t understand her and hung up. She never sent a nurse to check on her. She had to hold her mask to her face all night and didn’t get any rest at all. One of her nurses complained that she had 15 patients and had refused to take one more that had just admitted. The charge nurse called her a liar and told us that one nurse never had more than 7 patients and that she herself would come in to help if a nurse has more than 7 patients. By the way, the charge nurse said she had to wear a mask for the next 10 days because she was getting over COVID. And she walked into an 86 yr old woman’s room with pneumonia! Our experience was awful. We have decided that if she needs medical attention again we will go to Grandview.

Tons of bad reviews, Unsure why. I went to the emergency room and was treated as expected and fair. Got seen, got admitted. I ended up being there two days. They took very good care of me the entire time. There were times where I had to wait a few hours but it is a busy hospital and It's not like I was dying lol. I got the test needed done, they told me the plan and set up everything I needed to know to go forward. Really had a good experience. When I returned to do my follow up everyone was super nice and directed me where I needed to be. Gary Mollengarden, and John Issis are very helpful, communicate very effectively. Detail all options and tell you what they want to see and what they think is best. Great hospital. I can't remember her name but the emergency room doctor who admitted me was very smart and catches on very quick to signs and symptoms, likely saved my life haha.

Good luck with getting Wyvern Wallace, Clinic Operations to respond to you. A person that's supposed to be a patient advocate has ghosted me after I raised some concerns about patient care. She left me a message that she'd be out of the office for Thanksgiving returning 12/1. It's been crickets since then even though I've left messages. I went in for an annual physical and was charged a FACILITY FEE of $400+- what? I requested a referral for a Urologist, she confirmed one was in the records but no one contacted me to schedule. Main issue here is that I need surgery and no one at UAB West seems to care. My wife needed a CT Scan, the insurance company provided the referral approval. The great staff submitted the claim without the approval resulting in a denied claim. My wife in in the middle of an 11-month bout with insomnia and the primary care doctor never requested a specialist to review the situation. We wanted additional labs to hopefully find the root cause of the issue and was told by the primary care doctor that she didn't think it was necessary- WHAT? I guess if the person responsible for all UAB West Clinics don't care about the patient experience and ghost patients, that's why the clinics deliver substandard care. Wyvern, I am still waiting on that call that you committed to.

Beautifully designed hospital with state of the art medical equipment. Easily accessible off of I-459. The cafeteria staff members on the weekends are incredibly slow, inefficient, and inconsiderate (one was asking me to repeat my order multiple times; she had AirPods in her ears - perhaps the issue was her). That is my only complaint after spending significant time one weekend at UAB Medical West visiting a dying friend. Of course, I realize cafeteria staff/services are often outsourced. Nurses and other medical professionals were very responsive and the hospital Chaplain was amazing.

What a wonderful experience I had at this location! The building is beautiful and all the people I had to come in contact with were pleasant and accommodating! I was in the cath lab and had a Mother and Daughter duo who were fantastic! Faith (the mother) started my IV on the first try and I am a hard stick! All the people in the cath lab were so nice and explained everything they were doing! There was a “comedian” in there to that kept things lively which sure eased the anxiety! I’d give this group 10 stars if I could! Great experience!
