We had such a great experience at MGH! Mary, my son's nurse in surgery, as well as all of the other staff we dealt with, were fantastic and the facility is so nice.
Waited over an hour In the ER never saw the Doctor was asked to lay down on a bed with dirty sheets changed them myself and after the one I saw the nurse for 2 minutes the nurse took me from waiting room into the back the nurse ever returned to check on me within that hour. Waste of time coming here. You will be better off going anywhere else.
The ONLY bright spot is the awesome RNs and LPNs. The ER is awful. My daughter went to the after hours clinic with a stomach virus, unable to hold down food or liquids and I was instructed to take her to the hospital if she continued with her inability to hold down liquid. This was that morning. By 5pm, she was still throwing up every bit of liquid she drank and was getting dehydrated. We went to the ER as instructed. The ER physician, Joshua Alderman, gave us sprite and Zofran - the same medicine and drink she had been unable to tolerate. I told him this. He said they weren't worried about what she had done earlier but that she seemed to tolerate it well now. They sent us home. She puked on herself before we got into the parking lot. She threw up all over herself right outside the sliding glass doors. We went back in, and she was given a drip and liquids. We were prescribed more anti nausea medication, and when we got to the pharmacy the next morning at around 9am, we were told that the ER physician hadn't renewed his Medicaid contract (which is the insurance my daughter uses) and thus they couldn't even run her medication through insurance! I wonder how many people had prescriptions written by this doctor that they either could not fill due to cost or had to pay out of pocket for when they would have been otherwise covered. We were able to purchase the medication, but we could receive a bill that we can NOT afford. I want to know why a local, rural hospital in an area where large amounts of people have Medicaid as a primary insurance employs a doctor in the ER that does not work with or have a contract with one of the primary insurers in the area. That's silly, negligent, and greedy. Shame on MGH. Shame on the provider. Absolutely shameful. I think it's silly that I have to pay a bill at Magee General Hospital when my daughter's insurance is taken by the hospital, but the DOCTOR chose not to renew his contract with her insurance company... How can you reject insurance when the hospital you work for takes it? Especially after doing the absolute minimum. Gave her sprite and Zofran after told it wouldn't work because that's what we did the whole day. The doctor was very dismissive and said that he wasn't worried about what she did earlier, just that she kept it down now. Well, that day, we didn't make it to the car before she threw up all over her shirt and the sidewalk in front of the DOOR. We had to come back in and seek treatment again. They finally gave her fluids like she NEEDED to begin with and actually treated her instead of giving her a SPRITE and sending her out the door. This was on September 13th, 2024.
Horrible service at the ER. My grandmother lost consciousness this evening. We arrived to the ER and there was no one at the window. We filled out the paperwork that was left at the window. I rang the bell. No answer. We waited another 5+ minutes and I finally just knocked on the door. There were a couple of people standing back there looking out the window. One woman took the clipboard. I told her what happened. She looked at me like “whatever” with no sense of urgency and took the clipboard. We waited another 10+ minutes and still didn’t hear from or see anyone.
Just got back home from an unexpected trip to MGH's emergency afterhours clinic. Going to the ER is never fun, and I have to express my sincere thanks to the professional and efficient team at MGH. We were processed in very quickly, and our care team (Dr. Gillespie and NP Amanda May) were kind, caring, efficient, and effective. Took care of my problem very well. My wonderful wife, who has medical concerns of her own, was with me, and they even took time to make her more comfortable. Top notch team. Kudos to all!
