Absolutely Miserable Experience – Avoid If You Actually Want to Sleep This was one of the most uncomfortable and frustrating nights I’ve ever had. From the start, there was zero communication or instruction before showing up—I wasn’t even sure if I should take my usual melatonin. When I called ahead to ask, they had no idea and told me to ask the sleep tech when I got there. Not exactly reassuring. When I arrived, I was led to my room and sat around for over 30 minutes before the sleep tech even came in to get started. He apologized and said he was running behind because he hadn’t worked at this hospital in over a year. After attaching the wires and sensors all over my head and neck, he attached two nasal tubes I wasn’t warned about, which were extremely uncomfortable. I expected discomfort and had a feeling it would suck but this was next-level. Trying to sleep was a joke. The wires were everywhere, including under my head, making it impossible to sleep in my normal position (I sleep on my stomach/side, which was physically impossible). The room had paper-thin walls, and I could literally hear my sleep tech word for word talking to the woman in the next room over the intercom. To top it off, the hallway light was shining straight through the gap under my door all night, and the noise was constant—staff talking, laughing, wheeling carts, keys jingling. Not a single stretch of peace and quiet. Just when I finally started to doze off, I was woken up over the intercom because I had shifted on the finger sensor. Had I known how awful the conditions were, I would have requested a sleep aid— I have no idea how anyone is supposed to actually sleep here without being fully sedated. This whole experience was beyond uncomfortable, disorganized, and felt like a complete waste of time. If you have to do a sleep study, go somewhere else or be prepared for a miserable, sleepless night.
